Description:

This hand-quilted sailboat quilt was originally pieced by my mom, Elizabeth Tillman, but the blocks were uneven, making the entire quilt uneven.  I took it apart, re-pieced it using scraps from previous quilts, and together Mom and I quilted it.  It contains low-pile polyester batting and is quilted using a simple outline stitch.

Description:

This hand-quilted nine-patch block quilt was made around 1958 by my husband's babysitter in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida.  She made two, one for my husband and one for his brother.  We inherited both when we married and they have been our favorite quilts ever since.  They're now becoming ragged.  Made of baby corduroy with cotton batting, it's wonderful in summer and winter.

Diamond String Quilt

Maker:

An ancestor of Elizabeth Delegal, either her grandmother Nonie Sellers or her mother Ada Morgan.  It may have even been made by one of their ancestors.

Description:

I'm not exactly sure what to call this hand-qulted quilt because it seems to be unique.  The scrap blocks are made using diamond shapes, and, upon close examination, the pieces create a star shape, but the string placement make it appear to be a hexagon string quilt.  This one is unquilted and appears to have been pieced together using an old sewing machine.  The blocks are made using faded material.  One faded pink piece of material on one of the uneven edges reads, "Quick Maid Dress" and other illegible writing.

This hand-quilted string quilt was made using remnants and flour and sugar sacks and cotton batting.  It was not quilted, but tied.  It appears to have been pieced using an old sewing machine.

This hand-quilted Dresden Plate made with cotton batting and diamond stitch pattern.

This is an old quilt and the style doesn't really match Nonie Sellers' or Ada Morgan's styles.  Although they may have made it, I think Elizabeth did because her skills were very good.  I think she made it for her hope chest.
